Keeping your firefox extensions

Finally bumped to firefox 1.5 beta and predictably lost a lot of extensions. I knew this was just a conservative compatibility mechanism, and not real breakage, but wasn’t immediately sure how to work around it. This post is a particularly clear presentation of what’s going on and how to fix it. The comment stream mentions another extension that simply does a workaround (for all extensions) without showing any details.

Confirmed, and google-searching his site doesn’t find it either. I sent him a mail, I’ll post anything I learn. Roughly the process is to download the extension, extract a standard .rdf(?) file and override a max supported version property. Reassemble the .xpi and open it from firefox to install.

BTW, overriding usually works, but not always. An orbit theme broke my Tools / Options window (its download site now warns about deerpark breakage). Now I like the firefox “safemode” option ;-)
